Childhood friends Tom and Will are almost inseparable. They do all the foolish things teen boys do together, but when adulthood looms, Tom runs off to join the army and become a man, while Will goes to university to find himself.

Years later, Tom shows up on Will’s doorstep, broken, disillusioned, and hoping to find comfort in an old friendship. But Will has just embarked on a completely new future for himself—he’s transitioning from living as a man named Will to being a woman called Billie.

Tom is more than shocked—he’s bewildered and repulsed—but as Will transforms from male to female, their boyhood friendship transforms as well.

It certainly isn’t easy—the truth they uncover together about life and love—especially when it’s buried beneath prejudice, fear, and lost courage. But nothing worth having is ever easy.
