City are just two points away from winning the league for a fifth time but will face a tough test against their fellow Champions League finalists.
Both clubs enjoyed historic weeks as they advanced to the final in Istanbul on May 29, City with a 4-1 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea by defeating Real Madrid 3-1 over two legs.
With the team’s meeting in Europe’s biggest game in just three weeks, today’s match will have a bit of extra spice to it but Pep Guardiola has insisted he isn’t looking ahead to the final.
“Right now, there is not one thought about the final as we don’t have the Premier League in our hands,” the Blues boss said.
“When we have the PL, tomorrow in the next weeks, then the focus will be on the CL and everything related it. But I’m so cautious to think if you don’t have it then don’t talk. We still need points.”

Michael Owen makes Man City vs Chelsea prediction
“It’s a dress rehearsal of the UEFA Champions League final at the Etihad as Chelsea make the trip north. This should be another intense tactical battle between two of the best managers in the game,” he told BetVictor
“What makes it more interesting is that both teams have contrasting styles. We saw that in the FA Cup tie when Chelsea took the spoils. I think they’ll set up much the same here and try to hit City on the counter.
“Those tactics worked a treat in their midweek win against Real Madrid, however, City’s much-improved defence will be harder to breach.
“For City, we know what to expect. Ball retention is a huge part of their game, so with that, coupled with Chelsea’s patient approach, I can see another tight game evolving. It’s set to be a fascinating encounter but it’s one I think is likely to end all square.”

Tuchel says Chelsea selling Man City star Kevin de Bruyne was not a mistake
Thomas Tuchel has argued that Chelsea didn’t make a mistake by selling Kevin de Bruyne.
The Belgian star was sold to Wolfsburg under Jose Mourinho’s reign for £18million, only for Manchester City to bring him back to the Premier League 18 months later in a £54million deal.
Since, De Bruyne has established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders, leaving Chelsea fans frustrated they let the talented midfielder leave for a relative pittance.
See what he said here.

Guardiola will want to keep his players sharp ahead of the CL final
Four games in which to get three points needed – that is the top and bottom of City’s comfortable position.
In fact, given their superior goal difference, two points would almost certainly do it.
But Chelsea have a fight on their hands to get in the top four – that could be to their advantage in terms of keeping them sharp before the Champions League final.
Guardiola will aim to keep his players on their toes by giving everyone a chance to stake claims for places in the final XI – and the trials for that team start today.

The inside story of how Enzo Maresca made Man City’s young stars feel invincible
A mask may have been covering his face but it was easy to see that Enzo Maresca was beaming ear to ear.
The joy of lifting his first title as a manager and celebrating it with his children was yet to wear off. We’d been standing in the cold trying to catch a word with him for approaching an hour while the 41-year-old savoured the moment. As a way of an (absolutely not necessary) apology, he brings out some spare burgers left over from the celebrations, displaying the thoughtfulness that has so ingratiated himself to his young players. Those footballers eat good.
Maresca enjoyed a long and prestigious career, picking up several trophies in the process, including the Serie A title with Juventus and two UEFA Cups at Sevilla, yet he has no hesitation in naming his first prize won as a coach, Manchester City EDS’ Premier League Division 1 title, as his proudest achievement.

Dortmund may have just got some more leverage in the Haaland transfer saga
A big goal in the Bundesliga today as Dortmund take the lead against second-placed RB Leipzig. That result would be enough to crown Bayern as champions again but more interestingly it would lift Dortmund into the Champions League places, giving them considerably more leverage for any clubs coming knocking for Erling Haaland this summer if they are able to get a top-four finish.

Who will score the league clinching goal this year?
Who got the goals that clinched the previous titles for Guardiola’s City? In 2019 it was Aymeric Laporte who put the Blues 2-1 up at Brighton on the final day after they fell behind. And in 2018 while it was West Brom beating United that sealed it, Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan put City 2-0 up against Tottenham the previous evening in their 3-1 win.

Will Aguero start today?
Sergio Aguero’s current standing in the mind of the manager will be revealed by the starting XI.
The way he stepped up the second half at Crystal Palace, scoring a typically sharp goal and helping to create another, was a welcome glimpse of the old Kun.
His performances in training since then will be key, but Pep Guardiola knows Aguero can win a game in one movement, like no other player in his squad.
The fans want a fairytale finish to his City career – and scoring the goal that wins the league, or the Champions League, would fit that bill nicely.

Mark Lawrenson makes Man City vs Chelsea prediction
“It’s difficult to second-guess Guardiola’s team selection but I’d expect Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to pick a strong side,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport, predicting a 2-0 win for the hosts.
“Chelsea are still fighting for fourth place – to make sure they are in the Champions League next year, as well as trying to win it this season.
“Tuchel’s side fully deserved their win over City at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final last month but a stronger City line-up should come out on top at Etihad Stadium.”

Leeds defeat Spurs
With Spurs’ defeat to Leeds, there’s not quite as much pressure on Chelsea to pick up three points in the race for the top four today. They are five points clear of Spurs.

Spurs defeat will give Chelsea breathing room
Leeds holding on to beat Tottenham would boost Chelsea in the sense that it makes it less urgent for them to pick up points today, but at the same time playing with pressure may be the best way to pick up points. City are in the comfortable position of knowing exactly what they have to do today, and Guardiola was clear that he would like to wrap things up swiftly.

City fans will have to wait to learn if they can attend Champions League final
The grim news from the UK government yesterday looks to have quashed the dreams for City fans of making the Champions League final. From a health perspective, the decision to hold the final in Turkey certainly looks dubious given the current rates.
But from UEFA’s perspective, nothing has changed other than the UK government telling fans they shouldn’t travel and then trying to move the final to the UK instead. Add in the fact that both clubs in the final tried to embarrass UEFA and create a new European Super League last month and the political situation is even muddier. City can determine their Premier League fate today but it looks like the fans will be left waiting for news of the Champions League final.

What team will Guardiola select tonight?
It will be interesting to see whether Pep does rotate or not tonight, or whether he sticks with the team which beat PSG in midweek – which most would agree is, on form, his strongest.
There is no need to rest anyone, with this game coming four days after the Champions League triumph – and there is a good case to keep the momentum going, and wrap up the title, with no midweek game in the equation.

What a game we have on our hands
After the mathematics and possible scenarios on which we have been pondering in recent weeks, the title destiny comes down to this – a City win, and they are champions.
No need to check United’s result, or work out goal differences.
And by a strange twist of fate, the game has also become a dress rehearsal for the Champions League final, with both these teams winning in midweek to set up the all-English affair.
With Chelsea still needing points to secure a top-four place, there should be little chance for either side to experiment, rotate, or hide a few aces up sleeves, this should be full-on.

Predicted Man City line up vs Chelsea
Manchester City are set to play Chelsea at the Etihad in the Premier League on Saturday and victory for Pep Guardiola’s side would see them win the Premier League title for the fifth time – the third league title of the Catalan’s tenure.
The Blues will become very familiar with the London side in the next few weeks, looking to atone for their FA Cup semi-final defeat this weekend, although the clash almost seems a dress rehearsal for the Champions League final later this month in Turkey.
Guardiola made multiple changes for City’s defeat to Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup, but it’s expected squad rotation will be minimal here from the side that triumphed against Paris Saint-Germain, with the Premier League title now within touching distance.
