Robyn Hood Outlaw Princess
Robyn Howard arriving late for school is confronted by the school principal who orders her to go to after-school detention with instructions to write a history essay on famous men. In her history class she questions the teacher as to why there were so few famous women in history and explains that she often dreams of being leader of women.
In the detention class she begins to write her essay. Suddenly a flash of lightning is followed by a violent wind, a series of thunder crashes and another lightning bolt that knocks her to the floor.
She awakens in a forest, dressed in medieval clothing. She soon meets a group of similarly dressed young women who address her as Robyn, and it rapidly becomes apparent that they regard her as leader of their band, based in Sherwood Forest.
Robyn, after initial uncertainty quickly adapts to the role of Robyn Hood, leading a band of outlaw women against the tyranny of King John, and his crony the Sheriff of Nottingham. Her first success is in a raid against King John’s entourage where they rescue Pip young woman who is being sent to Nottingham Castle against her will, to marry the Sheriff.
Pip is in fact Princess Phillipa, a niece of the late King Richard. Furious that she has now joined Robyn Hood’s band the Sheriff of Nottingham launches a series of operations designed to hunt Robyn down.
The resultant adventures, in which Robyn is called upon to use all her talents and skills results in her facing a final, chilling challenge.
Review:
Robyn Hood: Outlaw Princess by John Reynolds is a fresh take on the classic Robin Hood but with a fun twist. This is a quick, entertaining young adult novel that everyone is sure to enjoy. Personally, I found it to be one that I could not put down.
