Malice Aforecourt
Hettie Parke enjoys her position as president of the Parke Croquet Club, but she can’t believe her eyes when she finds her croquet mallet wrecked beyond repair. She isn’t just annoyed. She’s furious. Someone will pay for this. But her fury quickly turns to dismay when her damaged mallet is linked to the murder of the Bowls Club president whose body is found on her croquet court.
As the investigation gets underway, Hettie’s mother hassles her about protecting the family name. Her brother revels in revealing her secrets. And while her sister-in-law offers a helping hand, she too isn’t above the occasional dig.
The only one not giving her a hard time is that cat Ceefer who seems to know more about what is going on than anyone, but even he is getting distracted by a certain troublesome female cat and her equally troublesome owner.
If Hettie wants her life back to some sort of normal she’ll have to uncover some other suspects to divert that detective’s focus. Otherwise, whoever set her up for the murder may yet win the day.
